This week I got the rare opportunity to actually do one of the pinterest projects I had saved. A very quick project, this one took me no time at all to complete. We’re talkin’ 30 minutes, start to finish.
I love my wooden utensils. When I have a choice, I will almost always choose one of my wooden spoons over the plastic or metal ones in my stash. They feel much nicer in hand and I love that they don’t scratch up my coated skillets. Something about cooking with all this plastic makes me skittish too. The only downside to all this lovely wooden goodness is how easily they dry out and splinter. I’ve never done anything to care for them besides washing and drying and the wear is starting to really show. 
But once again, Pinterest saves the day!
Wood butter…
The original recipe came from this post at 3191 Miles Apart. It’s really as simple as combining organic beeswax with food grade mineral oil. I used a 1/2 pound of beeswax and 32 ounces of mineral oil which was just enough to fill 12 – 4 ounce jars. The bit left in the measuring cup, I rubbed into one of my favorite wooden ladles with a paper towel. Immediately, I could see and feel the difference. Once the jars were cool, I got to work on my other wooden utensils. They were all in pretty bad shape and in serious need of some TLC. The wood butter soaked in fairly quickly and made such a difference in their condition. They look ten times better! I’m excited to try this on my cutting boards and bowls next. I also have an unfinished table that I think I might give a good rub-down. We’ll see how that turns out…
